North Korea was in the news a lot at the end of last year (wow… 2011 is really over!) because their leader, Kim Jong-il died. North Korea is largely closed off to the rest of the world and it’s very difficult to gain access to this heavily guarded nation. While there was a lot of speculation about the transition of power to his youngest son, Kim Jong-un and the future of this mysterious country, there was also a lot of talk about the bizarre, over the top mourning over Kim Jong-il’s death. You’ve probably read enough about that, so we won’t get into it here.

A few months ago we posted about this photo tour of North Korea. Pretty weird isn’t it?

We recently came across these photos of the North Korean Mass games on VSL. The games take place on Kim Il-sung’s birthday every year.

Can you see all the people making up the backdrop?! Scroll further down to see close-ups. CRAZY.
