My mother turned fifty last week! My sister and I suggested that we throw her a party at home and we do all the cooking, baking and decorations. We invited 35 of her closest friends. Our mother is a complete pro at hosting parties (doing all the cooking) and then also being present and people often request being invited to our home for her wonderful meals. So obviously the sister and I were slightly nervous about doing this all on our own and of course, informing all the guests that they would be eating our cooking and not our mom’s.
It was a total success! Or our parent’s friends are extremely kind.
We put out a selection of cheese, bread, crackers, fruit and home-made babaganoush for starters. The talented sister made honey mustard chicken, vegetable lasagne, chilli con carne, corn and brocolli salad, pasta salad, green salad and a potato salad.
I made some decorations- paper pom poms, jars, a banner and pinwheels.
I made a few photo props and the adults were all super cute while using them.
And I made the cake, a delicious victoria sponge piled with fresh fruits and cream! There was a moment right before we served it where I thought I might throw the cake out of the window and send everyone home, but it all worked out. And the cake was delicious.
Right before taking it out.
And Midori obviously.
So even though our mom wasn’t the hostess, it all turned out well and she had a lovely time. A few days before her birthday I showed her this P&G commercial.
I was watching this for the fifth time, still tearing up. Her ever witty response- “Well I can assure you it’s the hardest job”.
Happy Birthday Mama!
