merry christmas y’all

This year we got a tiny tree – it sort of looks like we just chopped the bottom half off… but I swear!  We bought it this way.  I decided I would try and make the banner from our round-up post the other day.  While it does look awesome up, it confirmed all of the irrational crafting fears I have of glitter.  I love how sparkly it is, but I can’t figure out how to contain it.  Anyway, it was worth the effort in the end.  🙂

Kylie from The Purplest House joined me for some holiday crafting and baking.  She learned two new things: how to sift flour, and how to cut in a straight line.  Well, almost a straight line.

Yum!

Pictured above are Smitten Kitchen’s snickerdoodles.

Kylie picked out a project for us to do; she decided on Deisgn*Sponge’s Christmas crackers.  We packaged up some candies inside to be broken open today!

And of course, we have to celebrate Hannukah as well!  Me and my mom made her famous latkes the other night.  A little potatoes, onions, eggs, and flour – bar none, one of the best foods on the planet.  Her trick is to squeeeeeze out all the extra water after you shred the potatoes.  Makes them extra crispy.  Yum, yum, YUM.

Christmas at the Pant’s has always been the happiest time of the year. While we were in boarding school and then college, it was the only holiday we were at home for. When we were kids it was always full of delicious food and decorating the tree and fairy lights and presents from Santa and presents from our parents and general cheer. This year, Christmas was a quiet, but very festive affair. As you can see, the tree is very tastefully decorated in gold and red. (My sister and I had nothing to do with the decorating of the tree this year. We would have probably made a fruit cake of our tree if we were in charge.)

We just had the family over for Christmas Eve dinner. My mom cooked up a storm, as always. (That funny looking thing on the bottom left is a leg of ham- I didn’t do a very good job of the photo)

I always over dose on the Christmas sweets so I’m ill before dinner is served.

My little cousin Midori being an artist and a nautanki. She is a constant source of love and entertainment.

My favourite tree ornament this year. It was HANDMADE by one of my mom’s pottery students.

Every Christmas evening the family walks around the lanes of Bandra to look at all the pretty lights and mangers or nativity scenes- whatever you want to call them.
